Learning Centers
4 November, 2015Within Preschool 3, all the students participate in learning centers. During this time there are 4-5 different activities for students to do in small groups. One center will always be with the Teacher and another with the T.A. The remaining 2-3 centers will be student lead inquiry using the resources provided.
Our learning centers offer a variety of materials, designs, and activities which enhance the learning of concepts, skills, themes, or topics. Most of the time the learning centers follow this plan:
- Fine motor skills practice – e.g Cutting, peg boards,
- Sensory Play – e.g Craft or playdoh
- Creative activities – e.g Drawing, painting, construction toys
- Social activities – e.g Group games or toys
- Teacher Lead Activity – This is used to assess and support all students individual learning needs.
As these learning centers are part of our routine, the students follow a certain structure. Each center is pictured on the smart board along with the students photos underneath. After the timer rings, usually 10-15 minutes, the children are responsible for cleaning up their station before rotating to the next. Which is again, displayed on the smart board. The class continues to rotate every 15 minutes until all of the students have visited each learning center.
Please enjoy these photos taken during our learning center times.
